Halloween Party Planning

I love Halloween party planning for many reasons.  This is one holiday where the scary, unusual, and unexpected, stretch the imagination.  This is the perfect holiday for creative types because the crazier you can get, the more spectators marvel at the creation.  So whether you decorate Halloween cute or super scary, there is something to please everybody.

Deciding to have a Halloween party can be so much fun.  Halloween is one of the top 10 holidays celebrated in the United States.  It is such a fun holiday that no mater what age you are, you get to enjoy.  I love looking at all the spooky decorations and trick-or-treaters in costume.  In addition to costumes, planning a Halloween  party can also be so creative.  So in this post, I will be covering some great ideas for a Halloween party.

Halloween Decorating Ideas

• Create a Halloween door wreath.  Purchase or make a great halloween door wreath.  I love to make these and having a cool door wreath sets the tone of what guests can expect on the inside.  So it is a nice welcome to a Halloween home.
• Decorate with skeletons.  Purchasing faux skeletons can get expensive, so look for these when they are on sale or after Halloween sales.
• Use backdrops on the walls.  These are great for pictures and settings.  For example, use backdrops behind your display tables.
• Consider changing lighting to orange, yellow, or purple.  So you can find light bulbs of different colors and some that change from one color to the next.
• Get a fog machine.  Fog machines help create the ambiance and the spooky feel whether it is indoor and outdoor.  Just make sure you get a machine that can be used indoors, so pay attention to the specifications.
• Use faux cob webs.  Some packages come with the fake spiders too.
• Make Halloween themed food (see ideas below).
• Decorate with pumpkins.
• Get a few large or oversized Halloween themed objects, like tombstones or coffins.  You can buy or make these yourself.
• Hang floating candles with fishing line.
• Use black or Halloween themed table cloths.
• Also consider using flameless candles in groups.
• Use cauldrons and brooms.  Create a witches habitat.  So you can add potion bottles, webbed table covers, witches hat, black stuffed animal cat, bats, dark and scary signs.

The fall is a great time to buy cauldrons on-line or at party supply stores.  These are bulky to ship, so they are often much cheaper at local stores.  So I love using cauldrons for food, decorations, deserts, favors and even ornaments.  Cauldrons come in many sizes and are mostly made from plastic.  I have seen posts where some DIYers make them from paper mache for decorations.  Also, the plastic ones can be painted to be aged or embellished.  I made this bubbling cauldron table centerpiece and everyone loved it.  So to learn how I made this, click here:  https://majorgates.com/do-it-yourself/halloween-cauldron-centerpiece/

Halloween Food Ideas

Making Halloween Food is so much fun as well.  Get creative and see how you can transform food into the theme.  Experiment with using food gels/colors and turn some foods black.  Dry ice is common to use for Halloween to make things smoke, but be careful and follow the safe handling instructions, so that you do not get a horrible burn.  So you must wear proper gloves to handle.   Try food carving fruits and squash.   Also, try to incorporate fall colored food.  So get food that is brown, orange, purple, dark green and black.

• Try making white chocolate dipped strawberries to look like ghosts.

• Cupcakes – decorate with witch hats, pumpkins, cupcake toppers, faux spider rings, etc.
• Sausages or hot dogs wrapped in croissants to look my mummies.
• Make a charcuterie board in Halloween colors.  Incorporate grapes, tangerines, nuts, meats, crackers, chocolate dipped pretzels, chocolate dipped items, black olives, candy corn, caramels, etc.
• Also, you can use Halloween shaped cookie cutters to cut out sandwiches.
• Decorate the dips in a Halloween theme.  Get creative!  So you can use small cauldrons or pumpkins to hold dips and sauces.

• Pumpkin shaped rice crispy treats.  Use food coloring to make them orange and the just roll into balls and then push in the tops.  Then add a pretzel stick at the top or a Rollo.
• Use large box or paper mache letters with the tops cut off, and fill with candy, fruits, nuts, crackers, or cookies for a great display.  So spell out words like “Boo”, “Spooky”, “Scary”, etc.
• Don’t forget the drinks.  Use water bottle labels to go around water bottles.  They even sell waterproof sticker paper if you need to place by liquids, or so the image does not sweat off with condensation.
• For adult parties, make some spooky cocktails or a punch.  So research different ways to create food safe smoke.
