Hosting Grinchmas
Hosting Grinchmas is a fun way to have a great Grinch Christmas or Birthday party. Â In this post, I will be writing about some great ideas to include in a Grinch party. Â The best fun is turning your space into Whoville. Â So when you think of a Grinch party, think whimsical and topsy turvy. Â This includes curved top Christmas trees, topsy turvy gift placements, bright red and green bulbs, ugly sweaters, and Grinch themed items everywhere. Â Also, the best part about a Grinch themed Christmas is that the color scheme already blends in with traditional color Christmas decor.
Grinchmas Colors include: Â lime green, green, red, deep red and white. Â So when looking for wrapping paper, look for bright red and green colors with polka dots, trees, presents, etc. Â Also, when looking for ribbon, look for 3-4″ wide bright colored ribbon.

Grinch Tree and Room Decor
- Make a Whoville Christmas Tree – Shape chicken wire around a tomato cage to form bent over top, and then cover with garland that will match your tree. Â Then place on the top of the tree instead of the top section of the artificial tree. Â So if your tree does not come apart, then stuff the top section into the tomato cage. Â Note: Â This only works on artificial tree.
Another great idea is if you want to add the look of thick snow on the tree. Â So you can do this by adding white batting in layers. Â You can also find cool Grinch themed tree skirts that will add to the fun.
- DIY Directional Sign – Â Make or buy a directional sign. Â You can make the signs on wood cuttings. Â Some craft stores sell blank signs in various sizes that you can decorate. Â You can also order Grinch directional signs on line. Â These signs are great indoors or outdoors. Â So if you do make this for outdoors, please use exterior wood for this project.
- DIY Grinch Ornaments – Â you can make your own or buy the decals/stickers on-line to make your own. Â So you can also use the decals/stickers on cups, drinks bottles, punch, etc. Â The stickers below are sold on Amazon. Â You can also make these with a craft cutting machine.
- Backdrop – these are great for accent walls, entry walls, and for photo ops. Â So I like to place photo prop decorations in a large bowl, for guests to take fun pictures.
- Photo Prop Frame – consider making a photo prop Grinch frame or you a buy one pre-made. Â These are so much fun with friends and family.
- Grinch themed stockings – decorate the mantle, wall, or stairwell
- Table Signs – decorate with fun Grinch table signs. Â Also, they can be used as accent decor, centerpieces, perfect for islands, etc. Â So you can find fun signs on-line, at big box stores, party supply stores, and craft stores.
Hosting Grinchmas Games
A critical part of having a great Grinchmas party is entertainment. Â People always remember the food and if they had fun. Â So take the time to plan some games. Â I recommend at least 3 games and if you can find some Grinch prizes, hand those out or make Grinch themed goodie bags to hand out to everyone. Â I like to have some paper games that are thought provoking and a few movement games that are just fun to play and watch. Â So here are a few ideas…
- Ice Breakers –
- Guess How Many? – put candy or beads in a bowl or jar and have guests guess how many for a prize.
- 2 Truths and 1 Lie – great way for people to get to know one another and start talking.
- What is Your Grinch Name – have guests write out their Grinch name and write on name tags. Â Then for the whole evening, everyone must call people by their Grinch name. Â This is so much fun, because half the time you forget what your Grinch name is. Â So this is an easy thing to make and create your own Grinch naming.
- Tight Space Games – these are games that can be played with a lot of people but there is not a lot of space. Â These games include: Â paper games like Who’s the biggest Grinch? and Grinch Trivia, Christmas Jeopardy, Grinch murder mystery, Christmas Taboo, A Grinchmas Left/Right Story, and Grinchmas Bingo.
ChristmasCountdown.uk has FREE printable bingo cards. Â For more information, click here: Â https://christmascountdown.uk/grinch-bingo/

- Minute-to-Win It Games – These games are set to a timer and guests of all ages play. Â So I like to divide people into teams for more collaboration and fun. Â You can basically use any minute-to-win it game and just make it Grinch themed. Â Some ideas are: Â Grinch Bean Bag Toss, Last Can of Who Hash, Snowball Gathering, and cup toss game.
- Last Can of Who Hash – Decorate a can labeled Who Hash and then hide the can in the main room(s) of the guests. The first team to find it in under a minute wins! Â If you need to, give them “hot” and “cold” hints to hurry it along.
Here is the can printout label, courtesy of hollyshome-hollyshome.blogspot.com. To print it, right click on your mouse and save it into your pictures. Â Then size it to a full sheet of paper and print it out in your printing program. Â Next, cut it out and put it on a 16 ounce can of food.
- Snowball Gathering – Guests pick up mini marshmallows as fast as they can with chopsticks and place them in a bowl in 20-30 seconds. Â The fastest guest wins a prize.
- Cup Toss Games – you can do a game where you toss balls into cups on the counter or table or make it a drinking game for the adults.

Other Grinchmas Notes
When making you crafts and projects, try using a Grinch font. Â These are free for personal use. Â So this site has a few different Grinch fonts: Â https://www.fontspace.com/category/grinch
Also, getting Grinch silhouettes are great for making your own crafts, ornaments, gift bags and signs. Just do an internet search on line and save down the images. Â Again, these are for personal use only or for making gifts to friends and family. Â You can also purchase silhouette images from many sellers. Â So if you have a Cricut or silhouette machine, your cutting machine can cut these out for you on vinyl, card stock, or sticker paper.
Have a great party!
