Hot Air Balloon Centerpiece
A Hot Air Balloon Centerpiece is a lovely and easy centerpiece to make for a baby shower or display table. These are also easy to transport to a location. I like how you don’t have to be an expert crafter to pull this off. It is also a look that is very affordable to make. You can also pair a couple of these centerpieces together for a more elegant look.
I like how you can tailor this type of centerpiece to match any theme. You can do this idea for a girl or boy shower or gender neutral. The appliques you add can practically be anything, as long as they are not heavy. If the shower is outdoor, bring some double sided tape to add to the bottom of the bucket, so it does not blow over in the wind. You can also make this with real flowers, just make sure to use wet foam. You can get good bouquets at a reasonable price at Sam’s Club, Costco and some grocery stores. Feel free to change it up, you will be surprised at what you can make.

- 12 inch wood dowels

Directions For Hot Air Balloon Centerpiece
- Start by cutting the floral foam to fit about an inch shorter than the bucket. I normally use a bread knife to cut the foam. Then hot glue floral foam to the bottom of the bucket.
- Then assemble the paper lanterns according to the package directions.
- Next, glue in four dowel rods to the bucket and let dry for a few minutes. If you don’t like the color of the dowel, feel free to paint it at this point. So I decided to paint the dowels glorious gold. Then add a dab of hot glue to the open end of the dowel rod at the top. Then add the paper lantern.
- Now cut the ribbon and make tiny bows. You will need four for each hot air balloon centerpiece you make. Then glue the bows to cover up the dowels where they connect to the paper lantern.
- Next, cut out your butterflies or appliques if you made your own or use the ones you purchased. I wanted my theme to match every where, so I made my own cutouts. To do this, all you need is a color printer, 65 lb white card stock and some sharp scissors. So you can look for images on the internet for whatever your theme. I printed the butterflies in various sizes.
NOTE: Please note that any images found on the internet are for personal use only. If you want to sell the items you make, you need to contact the image owner for permission and they may charge a fee. Major Gates recommends images from the internet are for personal use only.
- Next, create a double sided image if your image is not double sided already. Just glue two of the same butterflies together. Apply the hot glue to the backside of the image and then add in the long toothpick. Then apply another image and secure the image with your fingers.
- Then add in the butterfly or other image to the floral foam in the middle.
- Cut the flowers with the floral pliers and leave about 2-3 inch stems on the flowers.
- Now, add in the cut flowers around the image. For an added touch, you can add pearls in the center of some of the flowers.
- Then add on the crystals and lightly glue on a few of the pacifiers.
- Last, glue on the butterflies in a random pattern around the paper lantern.
- The hot air balloon centerpiece is done! Repeat for as many as you need.
