Directions For Authentic Sloppy Joes
- Start by chopping up the onions and bell peppers finely and set to the side.
- Then brown the ground beef in a large cooking skillet on medium high heat. So using a spatula or large spoon, mash up the meat and stir often to ensure even browning.
- When the meat is halfway cooked, add in the bell peppers, and cook for 2 minutes and then add in the onion and continue cooking. Total browning time with veggies is 12-15 minutes.
- Next, drain the meat mixture in a strainer and turn off the stove.
- Now, in the same pan, add the minced garlic and turn the stove to medium heat and sauté for 1-2 minutes.
- Then add in the tomato sauce, tomato paste, yellow mustard, brown sugar, coarse black pepper, garlic salt, parsley flakes, and Worcestershire sauce and stir well.
- Now, return the meat mixture to the skillet and stir well. Then reduce the heat and simmer covered for 10 minutes or until sauce has thickened.
- It is ready! Serve on hamburger buns with your favorite sides.
