Food Prep Ideas For The Week
Food prep in my household is very important. I do food prepping whether I am commuting to work or working from home. There are many benefits to food prepping. For instance, it saves time for meals and clean-up. You also gain a good sense of how much food your household goes through in a week, so you can better budget for groceries. When you food prep, you spend a few hours cooking but you are done for 4-5 days for the week with a variety of food choices.
I suggest making at least 4-6 larger quantities of food choices for most of the week. The reason I recommend at least 4 choices is to make sure you or your family has a few choices and do not get bored with the selection. So this includes the sides. I often make a casserole type dish as one of the meals.
These days as many of us are working from home but still have kids running around, meal prep is a life saver. You can give healthy, fulling meals to your family in between conference calls and working.

Ideas for Food Prep
- Casseroles – many casseroles are made with pasta, rice, potatoes and veggies. They are the all in one food meal. I make things like: chicken spaghetti casserole, broccoli rice casserole with chicken, lasagna, Shepard’s pie, Mexican casserole, chicken with rice, potato ranch casserole, stroganoff, etc.
- Mexican Food – enchiladas, taco meat, tostadas, burritos, Mexican casseroles, carnitas and fajitas
- Italian Food – spaghetti, lasagna, pasta dishes, manicotti, chicken Parmesan, chicken Marsala, meatballs
- Chicken – bake a whole chicken or batches of chicken to make in other meals. I often bake large batches of chicken breasts. Then I use the chicken to make great salads, tacos, tostadas, sandwiches and alone. Baking a batch of chicken breasts is great to provide numerous choices to your family.
- Crock Pot Recipes – I love crock pot recipes because you just prep, turn on the crock pot and go about your day. Things I like to make are: BBQ pulled pork, soups, chili, roasts, meat for French dip sandwiches, Swedish meatballs, stews, etc.
- Stove Stop Ideas: Salisbury steak, pork chops in cream sauce, Thai chicken curry, seafood, meats in cooked in sauces, etc.
- Oven Recipe Ideas – Augratin Potatoes, macaroni and cheese, sliced potatoes and onions, homemade pizza, baked potatoes, ribs, meatloaf, pot roast, ham, quiche, fish
