Ground Turkey Crock Pot Chili
Ground Turkey Chili made in the crock pot is easy. Chili is originally made without beans but I like a hearty chili. I like chili with veggies, beans and some spice. I consider chili as a comfort food but can also be part of a diet, if you do not add cheese and sour cream as toppings. The fiber from the beans and the protein will fill you up.
I often make dishes with ground turkey instead of ground beef. That is because it digests easier and those that have digestive issues or suffer from heartburn get some relief from meals made with ground turkey. I also cook with organic selections when I can to reduce the amount of antibiotics and preservatives in my food.
Chili can be made with your own spice blend that usually involves a combination of chili powder, cayenne pepper, seasoning salt, cumin, onion powder, garlic powder, dried oregano, dried basil, salt and paprika. I cheat and just buy the packets. Sometimes when I go to craft fairs or trade shows, I buy a few packs from country store vendors and try them out when I make chili. If you do this, make sure you get their website in case you want to buy more.

- 2 packages of your favorite package original Chili mix or you can make with your own personal recipe
- 5 pounds of Ground Turkey Lean – I used two 2.5 lb packages
- 2 – 14.5 ounce (411g) cans of Diced Tomatoes
- 2 – 6 ounce(170g) cans of Tomato Paste
- 53 ounce cans of Pinto Beans (Bush’s sells the huge can of beans) – drained and rinsed
- 2 Green Bell Peppers – chopped
- 1 Red Bell Pepper – chopped
- 1 large Onion – chopped
- 6 teaspoons of Minced Garlic or 6 pealed and chopped garlic cloves
- 3 large Jalapeños – chopped with 1/2 of the seeds removed unless you want it to be extra spicy
- 3 – twelve ounce bottles of Lager Beer (like Dos Equis or Stella Artois)
Supplies
This recipe can be halved if you have a smaller crock pot. My family eats a lot, so I make a large batch and freeze half of it.
- 6 Quart or Larger Crock Pot
- Mini Chopper or sharp knife
- Cutting Board
- Large Deep Skillet
- Large Spoon
- Strainer
Directions For Ground Turkey Chili
- Start browning the ground turkey in a large cooking skillet/pan on medium heat.
- Chop the bell peppers, onions in a mini chopper or a sharp knife and add to the ground turkey. Stir and add the minced garlic and continue cooking for about 5 minutes until the veggies cook down a little.
- Next, add in the chopped Jalapeños and continue cooking for another 2 minutes. Then add the meat and veggie mixture to the crock pot.
- Now add in the tomato paste, diced tomatoes and beer. Stir to mix.
- Then add in the chili mix and stir.
- Rinse off the beans in a strainer. Make sure you add last to the crock pot, so that you do not break up the beans while stirring.
- Cook on low for 6 hours.
Serve topped with cheese, sour cream and chives. This Ground Turkey Chili is wonderful on a baked potato as well.
