20 Top Things To Pack For The Beach
Going to the beach for the day or for a few days is very fun for everyone. The breeze coming off the ocean water is the perfect remedy for a hot day. The beach is a family activity that is perfect for all ages including babies and grandparents. There are some things I suggest to pack to make your trip to the beach the best.
We like to go beaches that are drive on. In some places they require a fee to drive on the beach, so bring some cash. Many drive on beaches will often have food trucks and ice cream trucks drive through, so bring cash for the kids. Drive on beaches make it perfect for getting things in and out of the car. So if you have a few people going, don’t try to cram everyone into one vehicle, bring a few vehicles, pack what you need and really enjoy the day.
Also look into large vehicle car rentals, many car rentals offer great deals for the weekend. So consider testing out a van or large SUV.
Your only costs are gas and parking if you bring your own food. So, it is one of the most affordable days you can have that everyone will enjoy.

Top 20 Beach Items
If you plan a couple days at the beach, consider renting a beach house or find a nice comfortable hotel nearby. Rent a couple of rooms and bring a few vehicles for optimal comfort. Therefore, this is a great getaway for a multi-generational family.  So here are the top items I recommend, in addition to your clothes/luggage for longer trips. For all items, try to get foldable and collapsible.
- Comfortable Folding Chairs – I like the chairs that have a mini table and cup holder. Some even have a mini cooler underneath.  So if you find a chair with a cooler, it can hold your keys, phone, camera and other valuables while you are in the water. Directors chairs hold more weight and are sturdy.
- Pop-up Canopy or Pop-up Tent or both – I bring both and sometimes the beach umbrella. The pop-up canopy is perfect for babies and small kids that may need a nap or for anyone that wants to lie down out of the sun. Also, the sides can be lifted up to still enjoy the ocean breeze. So the canopy works perfect for everyone. Just make sure you bring some good stakes for the ground and a mallet, so I use tent stakes.
- Portable Grill (don’t forget the grilling utensils)
- Cooler(s) – Wheeled coolers work best, also try to find one with cup holders on the top.
- Pool/Beach Towels – Bring one towel for everyone in the family.
- Sunscreen – Waterproof and SPF 50 or above. Also, make sure you reapply every hour to prevent sunburn.
- Pool Toys/Beach Toys – Consider bringing sand castle toys, balls, toss type games, stacking game (if you bring a table), squirt guns, etc. This is the best place to fly a kite because of the wind.
- Jug of Clean Water – It is always good to have fresh water to rinse anything off or wash hands
- Paper Towels/Wipes – Towels and wipes are great for wiping hands, especially if you have little ones.
- Table – I usually bring 2 tables. So I have one for stuff that I want to keep off the ground and a heat resistant folding table that I can place the grill on that can take the heat.
- Plastic Trash Bags – If you like going to a clean, nice beach, then make sure you pick up your trash. Bring a couple of kitchen trash bags to tie to chairs or tables. So if you want to continue to enjoy nice beaches, do your part and handle your trash.
- Boogie/Body Board(s) – also check your local Academy store if you have one
- Squirt Guns
- Beach Bags
- Arm Floaties or Life Vests
- Beach Blankets
- Food and Snacks – It is a lot of fun to bring food you love or plan to make it on the grill. So make a list of what you plan to eat and shop. Don’t forget ice or ice packs to keep everything cold.
- Bottled Water and Drinks
- Flip Flops or Aqua Shoes
- Paper Plates, Utensils, Napkins
