Where To Start Planning Tips
- Determine the date, this should be at least 3-4 months ahead of time. Then decide the time. So if you are doing an outdoor tea party, pick a comfortable time of the year and time of the day. You also want to avoid the rainy season in your area if possible. Also, another option would be to see if you can rent a nice area with a covered Gazebo.
- Next, decide your color palette. Alice in Wonderland is such a great theme, that you can practically tailor to any favorite color. So you can have the colors from the queen of hearts, cards, pastels to match tea cups, victorian traditional tea colors, shades of green to replicate a garden or bright vivid colors for pop.
- Now that you have your date, time, and colors, determine the venue. Will this be a party at home or a rented location? I think this party theme works better at a home, so that you can take advantage of the nature in many yards or the ability to transform your home to Wonderland in very creative ways. The other beauty of doing it at home is that you are not limited to time restrictions for decorating. You can start decorating days or even weeks before your party.
- Next, I would determine the menu. Will you be serving appetizers and finger sandwiches, sit down meal, or full buffet. Determine if you will be staying in the theme or not for food. If you are having a tea party, will you be serving a variety of teas? What type of sandwiches, canapés, bite-sized desserts, finger foods will you serve?
- Determine if you want your guests to dress up to match the theme. The costumes for Alice in Wonderland are so fun. Another option would be to make mini mad hatter hats for all your guests. Also, I have a post on how to make mini mad hatter hat headbands step-by-step in my blog.
- Now, determine how you will entertain your guests. What games will you play? Do you need an Ice Breaker? Consider music, outside entertainers, scavenger hunt, minute-to-win-it games, interactive photo booths, trivia, etc.
- Make a list of the decorations you want and note where you will purchase the items or if you will need to make some items.
- Place your cake, cupcakes and dessert order at your favorite bakery.
- Photo backdrop – make it yourself, rent or purchase one. If you have the budget, you can also hire a photo booth – there are 360° booths, selfie booths, and digital iPad booths.
- Invitations – there are many options for invitations, you can mail them, email them or send e-invitations.
- Also, don’t forget to create a timeline for the tasks needed for planning. Another great tip is for the day of the actual party, create an Agenda with rough estimate timing. I love using agendas because it keeps the party flowing with no dead space. Guests also can see what is coming and they get excited for the events on the agenda.
