DIY Hogwarts House Points Counter
Making Hogwarts House Points Counters are great for a party, theme decoration, or Harry Potter themed room. Â If you love the Harry Potter series, then this might be a great craft for you to try. Â I made these as a room decoration but these are great for a tri-wizard tournament. Â Just fill them with candy or with colored sand as the teams score. Â They could also be used at a Harry Potter themed candy bar.
I like that these are easy to make and have great detail. Â I love to work with air dry clay and the many crafts that I can create. Â So I have plenty of silicone molds. Â There are molds available on plenty of sites on the internet. Â Specific themes are a little harder to find, like Harry Potter. Â So for this design, I could only find key chain molds, so I used those. Â I was not disappointed and the detail was great.

Directions For DIY Hogwarts Points Counter
- Start by pushing and smoothing the air dry clay into the molds. Â Then allow the clay to dry at least 1-2 hours or until the clay comes out of the mold cleanly. Â It does depend on the clay and the climate the clay is drying in. Â So the clay should be bendable, but not so soft that it smudges when you touch it.
- Remove any stickers from the vases and wipe clean.
- Then remove the clay from the molds and gently add Tacky glue to the back. Â Press gently onto the glass cylinders without smudging the clay.
- So keep checking on the molds as they dry to make sure they are not coming up on the sides. Â They may take up to an hour to dry.
- Once the clay embellishments have dried, paint them all with gold metallic paint with a small paint brush and allow to fully dry.
- Next, hot glue on the cylinder vase on the base candle stick holder.
- Now, working one vase at a time, generously apply the paint color of the appropriate house over the clay.
- Then, wipe off the paint with a baby wipe, allowing the paint to go into the cracks and crevices.
- Now repeat for all the house vases. Â For the Hufflepuff vase, I accented with Festive Brown and Inca Gold for more depth.
- Next, I made the tops using the bases of cloche domes that I found at Dollar Tree. Â So I printed the images on white card stock and then hand cut out the images. Â Then I used a glue stick and added to the tops.
- Now, fill the vases with whatever filler you like, or leave empty. Â Leave empty if you are using for a tri-wizard tournament and fill during the tournament.
