Harry Potter Bertie Bott’s Ornament
Are thinking about having a Harry Potter Christmas tree this year but do not know where you are going to find enough ornaments? I will share how to make them yourself. Harry Potter Bertie Bott’s ornaments are so cute and pretty easy to make. I will also share how I made the faux jelly beans that go on the ornaments.
My boys wanted a Harry Potter Christmas tree this year and when I started looking into buying some ornaments, I could not find them. Well, I could find them at amazing high prices but not at reasonable prices. So then I determined I would have to make them myself. Next, I made a plan of the types of ornaments I would like to make and then set out how to make them. I will share in multiple posts how I made the ornaments.

Directions For Bertie Bott’s Ornaments
These directions are for 6 ornaments but you will have enough supplies to make many more if you like. Just make sure you have enough Laser Wood Discs.
- Start by making the faux Jelly Beans (about 36). Then, pinch off about 2 tablespoons of clay and pinch into smaller sections to make the jelly beans. Roll them into balls first, and then roll them elongated slightly bending in the middle. Look up images of jelly beans to have a visual. Then place them on a non-paper surface to dry 24 hours.
- Paint half of the jelly beans in the colors you want the Bertie Bott’s. Then, I used golf tees in a Styrofoam floral block to dry them. If you use paper, sometimes the paint sticks to paper and you get paper on the jelly bean. So allow to dry for 30 -60 minutes and then paint the other side and allow to dry for another 30-60 minutes.
- While the jelly beans are drying, paint the wood circles red. Start by painting the edges first and then one side of the wood circle. Then, allow the wood to dry about 30 minutes.
- Print the Bertie Bott image you want to use on the ornament on white 65 lb card stock. Do an internet search and find the image you like. So I used the one below. I printed 3 rows by 2 columns in a free photo editing software called PhotoScape.
Here is the link if you need one and I do not have an affiliation with PhotoScape. http://www.photoscape.org/ps/main/index.php
NOTE: The images used in my post or by doing an internet search are to be used for personal use only. So you can not use the images on MajorGates for the re-production for items for sale. These images are for at home use only. You must locate the original owner of the image if you wish to make items for sale and get their permission.
- Next, paint the other side of the wood circle and allow to dry another 30 minutes.
- While the wood circle is drying, cut out the Bertie Bott image with sharp scissors.
- Then on the back side of the image, paint on the Mod Podge and place on the painted wood circle. Slide it around to make sure it is centered. Now allow it to dry about 20 minutes.
- Paint more Mod Podge on the front of the image and allow to dry.
- Once all the Bertie Bott’s are dry, hot glue 5-6 to the wood circle. If you did not use a shinny acrylic paint, you may want to spray the Bertie Bott’s with clear gloss spray paint before gluing to the wood circle. So, I made a bunch of faux jelly beans because I also made Bertie Bott’s in the candy box.
- Next, cut an 8 inch length of cord ribbon. Then flip the ornament over and glue on the cord ribbon.
- The ornament is done, so let me know how it turns out!
