Harry Potter Hogwarts Great Hall

Hogwarts Great Hall

I love this Harry Potter Hogwarts Great Wall backdrop that is inspired by the Harry Potter movies.  So this is a great backdrop for a Harry Potter themed party or event.  This project is pretty easy to make and requires no great crafting skills.  You start by looking for Harry Potter images on-line and printing them out to put in a 8 x 10 inch frame.  Also, I like how you can buy the picture frames in bulk and they create a dramatic impact.

The house banners hanging underneath are made from posters.  The images were found on-line and then printed on 11 x 17 inch copy paper.  Then just hand cut them out, and use a large glue stick to glue them on.  They can attach to the wall with clear stick pins.  So this project was also very easy.

The Harry Potter character wood cutouts are made with plywood and the patterns are enlarged clip art.  In addition, I have a link below to how to make these cutouts.

Supplies

  • 8 x 10 inch black picture frames – sometimes you can locate these at regular stores but finding the quantity is often the issue
  • Scissors
  • Brick bulletin board paper
  • Black construction paper
  • Glue sticks or low temperature glue gun
  • Ruler
  • Silver gel pen or white pencil
  • Packing tape or regular tape
  • Double sided tape
  • Clear stick pins
  • Black card stock (if you have a cutting machine) or pre-cut letters

Directions For Harry Potter Hogwarts Great Hall

  • Start by measuring your space and make sure you have enough bulletin board covering.  Then, cut the bulletin paper and affix to wall with tape or push pins.  So overlap the paper in sections that it all looks uniform and then tape.

  • Next, cut out the black covering stones/bricks.  These should be about 6 inches by 10 inches.  So, I recommend making a template with a piece of card stock and then tracing the pattern on the black construction paper.  Then in order to see the markings, you will need to use a white/silver gel pen or pencil.
  • Then overlap the black bricks by applying a thin line of glue at the top.  So, measure about 2 1/2 inch inches in and then start to glue.  Repeat until you create the length of the backdrop.  Then, repeat for the top and other side.  So, I glued about 5 or 6 at a time and then attached to the wall.

  • Now, print out all the images in the size that will fit an 8 x 10 inch frame.  Then cut the images and assemble in the frames.  I purchased about 20 frames but used a few less.  Then determine how many images you need for the space.
  • Attach the picture frames to the wall using double sided tape.  Just place the tape inside of the corners and a strip in the center and place on the wall.  So you need to have an idea of what you are placing where.  I like to do a dry fit on the floor to get my arrangement in place.  Be sure to leave some room at the top if you are adding wording.

NOTE:  Any images found on the internet are for personal use only.  If you intend to sell something with an image you found, you must get permission of the image owner and they may charge a fee.  Major Gates only recommends using images for personal use only.

  • Last, add the lettering at the top.  You can spell out the hall, add a name, Happy Birthday, etc.  The Harry Potter Hogwarts Great Hall is complete!  This is such a fun project!
