Instructions For HP Potion Bottle Ornaments
I will explain a few variations of making the Harry Potter Potion Bottles. I use the plastic mini travel bottles since kids tend to like to look at these bottles and touch them. They are sometimes so excited about them they also drop them. Using the plastic mini travel bottles are safe and inexpensive to purchase.
Instructions:
- Do a internet search on “Harry Potter Potion Bottle Labels” and save to your computer the labels you like. Please note that these labels must be for personal use. If you plan to sell these, you need permission from the person that created the label.
- Print your labels on cardstock and cut out. I print 12 labels per page. You can download many free photo editing simple applications, I used Photoscape. http://x.photoscape.org/
- Hand cut out your labels with scissors.
- Fill your dry supplies potion bottles and lightly glue on the cork.
- Glue on your potion bottle label with the Mod Podge and let dry.
- Paint over the potion bottle label with the Mod Podge and let dry. You can’t apply the potion bottle label and paint over the top or it will slide off.
- Screw on your closed eye hook on the top of the cork.
- Apply the twine or ribbon to the hook and tie to make a loop.
To Make Glitter Covered Harry Potter Potion Bottle Ornaments
This method allows you to make many potion bottle ornaments with glitter without using tons of glitter.
- Pour 1 teaspoon of Mop & Glo or Polycrylic inside of the mini travel bottle, cover with cap and swirl (not shake) liquid all over bottle. Then pour excess back into bottle.
- Remove cap and pour out remaining Mop & Glo.
- With the funnel, pour desired color glitter inside of travel bottle. This is about 1 Tablespoon of glitter.
- Put cap back on and swirl glitter all around until entire bottle is covered in glitter.
- Remove cap, pour out remaining glitter and allow to dry over night. Make sure you let it dry overnight or longer or the glitter inside will clump and slide over time.
- Once dry apply the cork, then label by following the instructions above.
Harry Potter Potion Bottle Ornaments with Thick Liquids for Movement
For added fun, make a few potion bottle ornaments that have thick movement liquids to really look like it’s label. Imagine what Dragon Blood, Liquid Luck and Elixir of Life would look like. These fun liquids involve corn syrup and vegetable oil.
To Make Dragon Blood, Wolfsbane Potion or Liquid Luck
- Fill the travel bottle mostly with water. Add a few drops of red food coloring and the rest with vegetable oil. Shake slowly to mix and enjoy the effect.
- To Make Liquid Luck or Elixir of Life – Fill the bottle half way with corn syrup and add glitter. Cover and shake slowly until mixed. Add more corn syrup and more glitter and shake slowly again. Be sure to leave some room at the top of the bottle so that you can shake and the liquid can move to mix with the glitter.
