Ministry of Magic Mailbox Game
The Ministry of Magic Mailbox game is a hit with everyone. This game is so much fun! It is also pretty easy to make and uses a few supplies. This game is great for a Harry Potter Tri-Wizard tournament. For more Harry Potter party ideas, click here: https://majorgates.com/do-it-yourself/harry-potter-party-games/
I like that players can pretty much be of any age to play it. It is as simple as flying paper airplanes or ministry letters through targets to win points.

Supplies
- Giant piece of cardboard, like from a TV or appliance box. You can drive around on trash day and usually get a large box someone has thrown out. It should be about 6ft x 3.5ft, but it can be larger or smaller if you like.
- White 65 lb regular card stock
- Purple construction paper or card stock
- Various size plates – to draw the circles
- Sharp scissors
- Craft knife
- Glue sticks
- Acrylic gold paint
- Wooden stakes (also sold at local hardware stores) or PVC pipes
- Printer
- Hot glue gun or gorilla glue
Instructions For Ministry Of Magic Mailbox Game
- I made the flying letters by finding free templates on the internet and printing on purple construction paper. Then I cut out some Ministry of Magic seals that I found the image on the internet and printed on regular card stock. Next, I painted the tips with metallic gold acrylic paint.
- For step by step instructions on how to fold the letters, visit http://10digitdesign.blogspot.com/2014/07/how-to-make-ministry-of-magic-memo.html
- I used a darker lavender paper and just used acrylic gold paint to paint the tips. Construction paper tends to be larger paper, so I just cut the paper to be 8 1/2 x 11 inch before printing and folding. So pay attention to how you feed the paper into the printer so that it prints correctly.
- Then, once you fold the letters, secure with a glue stick so that it is firm.
- Next, add the seal and then paint the tips with the gold paint and allow to dry. This is about 2 hours.
Here are the templates I used for the letters and game board…..
NOTE: Any images you find on the internet are for personal use only. If you plan to sell or reproduce items that you found on the internet, you must get permission of the image owner. Sometimes they charge a fee, so get permission. I am posting images for personal use only and not resale.
- I printed the seals on white regular (65lb) card stock. So, I printed 20 per page so they should be about 1/1/4 inch seals.
- Here is a blank template for the points cards and you can download a free Harry Potter font that you like to print whatever you like. So I used different character names and point values for the the Ministry of Magic Mailbox Game.
- Print the hand in various sizes to fit around the circle cutouts.
For The Ministry Of Magic Game Board
- Print out the templates of the Ministry of Magic labels, identity cards (point values) and hands in various sizes. Then cut them out.
- Glue the Ministry of Magic label at the top of the cardboard box.
- Then trace large circles onto the cardboard using various size plates.
- Next cut out the circles with a craft knife or very sharp scissors.
- Then glue on the identity cards next to the circle cutouts.
- Now add the hand cutouts and randomly point to the circles.
- Feel free to add additional Ministry of Magic clipart from the internet to further decorate the board.
- Last apply wood yard stakes or PVC pipe to the back with hot glue or gorilla glue so that you can stake it into the ground.
- You are ready to play the Ministry of Magic Mailbox Game! Select a time keeper and someone to take score as the host runs the game. I used the leftover letters to decorate my Harry Potter Christmas tree.
Rules For Ministry Of Magic Mailbox Game
Place a long stick or cones for where the players must be behind to fly the Ministry of Magic memos. So move the stick or cones closer for smaller kids. Then the game host will yell out the points where the player gets the plane through the circle. Specifically 100, 200, 500, 1000, etc.
Score as many Ministry of Magic planes as you can into the mailbox circles in 30 seconds. So this Ministry of Magic mailbox game counts points as a whole to award, first, second, etc. I would also hand out an individual prize for the person with the most points for the flying letters at the end, if you have a tournament. For a tournament, award points for the house teams as such:
1st = 100 2nd = 75 3rd= 50 4th = 25

Hi – do you have a template for the badge images that you can share or I can purchase
Hi Jennifer, Please see my post https://majorgates.com/do-it-yourself/harry-potter-badges/ for the badge images for free and directions. The post also has the instructions for how to make them. Just click on the image of the crests and save down to your computer and print to the size you need. I used a craft punch for the black background and got the pins from my local craft store. Have a great party. – Elena
