Pirate Party Ideas
In this post, I will be sharing some Pirate Party Ideas and Tips. Â I love this theme because it is great for boys and girls and people of all ages. Â Who wouldn’t have fun being a pirate for the day? Â I also like that you can be a pirate anytime of the year. Â This theme is perfect for birthdays, Halloween, summer parties, and for specific theme events. Â Pirate decorations are also fun. Â Also, finding or making pirate themed things are pretty easy.
When planning a themed party, I like to give myself at least 4 months to make them spectacular. Â I also like to give myself enough time, so that I do not feel rushed. Â The more time you have to plan, the better deals you will find when shopping. Â You also will have time to make anything you are unable to find and purchase.

Pirate Party Tips
- Dress up like a pirate and encourage guests to do so. Â To help guests get into the theme, pass out eye patches, sashes, fake swords and pirate hats. Â You can also have a prize for the person or family that shows up in the best costume. Â Just put it on the invitation and promote the costume contest.
- Encourage guests to talk like a pirate. Â Make pirate quote cards and place them on tables around the party space. Â Incorporate talking like a pirate in the games you play.
- Design your party with the guests and guest of honor in mind. Â For example, are your guests more outdoorsy or indoor folks. Â If there is a guest of honor, determine what things are important to them and incorporate them.
- Explore your crafty side. Â Try making your own backdrops like a map or name banner. Â Also, try making indoor signs for the menu, agenda, guessing games, welcome sign, thank you for coming sign, etc. Â Print them to fit in 5″ x7 ” or 8 1/2″ x 11″ photo frames.
- Determine how you will entertain your guests.  For instance, will you have games, music, photo spots, hired entertainment, crafts, watch pirate movies, etc.  For adults you can also add a murder mystery, minute-to-win-it games, pirate cocktail mixing, play jeopardy, taboo, etc.  For kids, a scavenger hunt works great, craft stations, dig for treasure, walk the plank, piñata, team games, and sword fights (with plastic or foam swords).
Pirate Party Decoration Ideas
- My favorite part of any party is decorating the space. Â Start by determining your main colors and then accent colors. Â Then start to design your main focal point. Â This is typically a wall or food area that displays the theme and any large signage. Â You can have a photo wall and/or tables that are decorated well in the theme.
- For event spaces, consider the tables and walls. Â You can use lighting effects to add great drama to walls. Â For the tables, think about the table coverings and centerpieces.
- Determine if you are doing a sit down dinner or serve yourself buffet. Â For smaller gatherings you can also do family style. Â Styling the food is fun. Â I mostly do buffet style parties and make food labels for everything. Â This allows me to mingle with my guests and host games without someone needing to ask me what something is. Â Just make sure you put on the labels if something contains common food allergies like nuts. Â Also, if your punch contains alcohol, be sure to notate that on the food tent label.

- You will need to determine how many guests you are expecting and then purchase or rent serve-ware. Â I recommend clear, faux silver or white utensils if you are using plastic. Â If you do not purchase colors, the extras can be used for future parties, family and friend gatherings, picnics, etc. Â In addition, you will need to consider platters, warming dishes and cold platters. Â It is at this time that I start to plan the menu. Â Once you know what you are serving, gathering the serving dishes is easy. Â Of course, you don’t have to worry about this if you are renting with catering, or having your party at a restaurant, or party event place.
- Have fun making pirate themed food. Â Label things like: Pirate Peg Legs (pretzel sticks), Cannon Balls (cheese balls, meatballs, or malt balls), Dead Man’s Fingers (little sausages), Fish and Chips, Seaweed Wraps (wraps), Pirate Ships (sandwiches and hot dogs on buns), and Polly’s Crackers.
- Have a space at the party for places for people to put gifts and a table for favor bags.
- Considering decorating a sweets table or having a food bar station.
- Personalize some things. Â See what things you can make that are personalized with a name, date, or name of event. Â Water bottles and chip bags are easy ways to customize the party and guests walk away with a nice and simple treat.
- Other great decorations to help set up your pirate theme are: Â netting, pirates treasure, sea shells, skeletons, ship wreckage, crates, barrels, keys, ropes, sails, bottles, cannon balls, and pirate hooks.
- Hopefully you got some ideas, and next it is time to start brainstorming. Â Get a pad and paper and start jotting down everything that you can think of in relation to the party. Â Then pick a date, time, and location, and get to planning. Â Good luck and best wishes Matey!
