Air Fryer Fried Mushrooms
Air fryer fried mushrooms are a wonderful treat. I love this recipe because it is quick, easy and delicious. I like to try recipes with healthy flours and see how the flavors are enhanced. This recipe is packed with fiber and mushrooms are nutritious.
The sweetness to this recipe comes from the Honey Clusters Fiber One cereal. Then when you add in the flours and bread crumbs the mixture makes the prefect breading.
Making fried mushrooms in the air fryer removes the guilt of having something fried. Other than brushing your air fryer and the tops of the mushrooms, there is no other oil. I like to use olive oil since it is also healthy.
Best of all, kids love air fryer fried mushrooms too. They like to dip them like chicken nuggets, so this is a perfect recipe for anyone that wants to reduce meat consumption. I like ranch dressing, but my kids will also dip these in ketchup. I never have leftovers when I make these. Give them a try and let me know how it turns out!

Ingredients
- 16 ounce package of fresh mushrooms (454g)
- 1 1/2 cups Honey Clusters Fiber One Cereal
- 3/4 cup of spelt flour or Tiger Nut flour (sold at health stores like Whole Foods, Sprouts or in the organic section at your local grocery store)
- 1/2 cup of Italian bread crumbs
- 1/4 cup of All Purpose Flour
- 3-4 eggs
- 2 Tablespoons of water
- Olive oil for basting the mushrooms and the air fryer basket
- Sprinkle Seasoning Salt and Garlic Salt for flavoring once done
**Spelt Flour – Spelt is a nutritious whole grain flour, rich in vitamins and minerals such as magnesium, calcium, selenium, iron, manganese, zinc, vitamin E and B-complex vitamins. It is high in protein and lower in calories than wheat flour and also easier to digest than wheat. It has a mild nutty taste.
**Tiger Nut Flour – A starchy powder made from root vegetables, and not nuts as its name implies. This means that those with nut allergies as well as those adhering to low-carb, gluten-free, and paleo diets can enjoy tiger nut flour. It is considered a super food and has as much nutrition as red meat, has prebiotic fiber and has as much potassium as coconut water. 1/4 cup provides 10g of fiber (40% of a daily allowance).
Supplies
- Gallon freezer bag
- Food mallet
- Air Fryer
- Strainer
- Knife
- Cutting board
- Silicone brush
Directions For Air Fryer Mushrooms
- Rinse off mushrooms and place on paper towels to dry.
- Pour the Fiber One cereal into a freezer bag and crush with the mallet until it becomes fine crumbs.
- Now add in the flours and bread crumbs to the freezer bag and shake.
- Beat the eggs in a small bowl and add in the water and beat again.
- Brush some olive oil onto the bottom of the air fryer basket/tray.
- If you bought large mushrooms, slice them into large pieces. Then add some mushrooms to the bowl of eggs and coat.
- Add a couple of mushrooms to the freezer bag and shake. So do not add too many, as the flour mixture will become clumpy and the mushrooms will not coat well. Than add the coated mushrooms to the air fryer basket.
- Repeat by dipping the mushrooms into the egg and then into the flour mixture a few at a time.
- Brush some olive oil on the top of the mushrooms so they are crispy.
- Cook the air fryer fried mushrooms on 370 degrees Fahrenheit for 4 minutes. Then flip the mushrooms over, brush a little more olive oil on and cook for another 4 minutes.
- The air fryer fried mushrooms are ready!
- Sprinkle with a little garlic salt and seasoning salt and serve. Try dipping them in ranch dressing and you will not be able to stop eating them.
