Directions For Fried Goat Cheese Balls

  • Use a sharp knife to cut a 6 ounce log of goat cheese into 12 pieces.  So to get clean slices from the goat cheese log, you may want to pop it in the freezer for about 10-15 minutes to firm up. Then slice it using a non-serrated knife, wiped clean after each slice. Or you can use a thin stainless-steel wire like they do in the fancy cheese shops.

  • Next, use the palms of your hands to roll the goat cheese into a ball. Then, place on the baking sheet and freeze for about 10 minutes (this will keep them firm while you coat them).

  • Then fill a separate bowl with panko bread crumbs and add in the seasonings:  dried parsley, dried thyme, granulated garlic and pepper.

  • Next, crack the eggs in a small bowl and beat with a fork.  So this will be for your egg wash.

  • Then, place the flour in a shallow bowl and coat the goat cheese.

Flour Mixture

  • So you should have three small separate bowls at your breading station. Then coat the balls in flour, dip into the egg, then roll in Panko breadcrumbs until covered.  Then place on wax paper while you coat the remaining goat cheese.

  • Next, heat oil in a small skillet over medium-high heat (or use your deep fryer).  So, I prefer to use a little olive oil, but you can also use vegetable oil or canola oil.  Then, place the goat cheese balls into the hot oil, 3-4 balls at a time.  So to get evenly fried goat cheese, don’t over crowd the pan. Cooking them in small batches is more manageable and allows room for you to flip them over.

  • So be sure to turn them frequently so that they are evenly cooked on all sides. Then once they’re fried to a golden brown on all sides, remove them with a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel to absorb any excess oil.

  • Place your hot crispy goat cheese balls on a serving platter, garnish with a little kosher salt or flaky sea salt, fresh herbs or parsley and serve hot.  Then, eat them by themselves or serve with your favorite dipping sauce like honey or marinara.

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.

Can I make this ahead of time?

You can roll and freeze the goat cheese into balls ahead of time. Then, once they’re frozen, transfer the cheese balls into a freezer-safe bag until ready to coat and air fry.  So you can also bread the cheese balls and freeze them to air fry later.
