Strawberry Sorbet

Strawberry Sorbet

Strawberry Sorbet is so light and refreshing.  It is also so easy to make.  Sorbet can be made with any type of fruit but my favorite is strawberry.  I also like that strawberry sorbet requires very few ingredients.  If you have ever thought of getting an ice cream maker, now might be the time.   You can make ice cream, sorbet, gelato and frozen drinks.  So you basically make a mixture, chill it and then pour it into the ice cream maker.

Making your own sorbet or ice cream allows you to control all the ingredients you are eating.  So you are able to control the sugar, and make sure nothing is in there that you are not sure what it is.  You can make it with organic fruit and as often as you like.  Pineapple sorbet is also delicious.  Give it a try and let me know how it goes.

Churros Balls

Ingredients

Makes:  2 Pints

  • 2 1/2 pounds of whole fresh strawberries (3 pints)
  • 1 1/4 cup of cold water
  • 1 1/2 cups of granulated sugar
  • Juice from 1 large lemon (about 1/4 cup)
  • pinch of salt
  • Mint leaves and sliced strawberries for garnishing

Supplies

  • Ice Cream Maker
  • Sharp knife
  • Cutting board
  • Medium sauce pan
  • Blender
  • Measuring cup
  • Large spoon
  • Fine mesh strainer
  • Ice cream scoop
  • Air tight container

Directions For Strawberry Sorbet

  • Start by washing the strawberries and drain in a fine mesh strainer.  Then place on paper towels to dry.
  • Next, in a medium saucepan over medium heat combine the sugar, water and stir until sugar is dissolved.  Then remove from heat and allow it to cool to room temperature.  Once cooled, add the lemon juice and salt and stir.
  • Now, slice off the tops of the strawberries and then cut in half.

  • Next, place half of the chopped strawberries in the blender with half of the syrup and blend until smooth.  Then pour the blended mixture over the mesh strainer over a bowl.  Now, blend the remaining chopped strawberries and remaining syrup until smooth, and repeat straining over the bowl.

  • Cool in the fridge for at least 3 hours.  The mixture needs to be cold chilled, so this can take up to 6 hours.
  • Next, follow the directions on your ice cream maker, for mine, you just turn on the machine.  Then pour the chilled mixture into the freezer bowl and let mix until thickened, about 20-30 minutes.  The sorbet will have a soft, slushy mixture.  Transfer the sorbet to an airtight container and place in freezer for about 2 hrs.
