Gift Basket Ideas

Basketball basket

I often make gift baskets and will share some of my gift basket ideas.  Everyone loves receiving a gift basket but many do not know how to make them.  Most people struggle with what to put in the gift basket.

I suggest starting from your heart.  Think about what you know about the person or what you think they may enjoy.  If that approach fails, think about what you would like to receive and that is what you put in the gift basket.  Then make a list of items and see what you already have at home.

After you purchase the items you need, you can put the gift basket together.  Who ever receives the basket will love it.

You can make gift baskets for charity, raffles, or even a party prize.  I like to make gift baskets in themes but a hodge-podge of cool things will work too.

Instructions For How To Make A Gift Basket

I will show you a gift basket idea that I did for a friend of mine.  Gift baskets show how much you care and the items you put in the basket let the person know how you were thinking of them.  To make a gift basket is pretty easy and sometimes you have most of the items at home already.

I like to make my gift baskets with canvas storage bins and tulle.  So I try to pick neutral colors so that it can match any color scheme, unless I am sure I know the colors that person decorates with.  When you buy the storage bins in a neutral color, the gift recipient can multipurpose the bin in their home.

Here are the basic supplies.  I tend to shop locally for bins, tulle and filler but if you can’t venture out, here are some links to items.  So I have done the searching for you.

  • Canvas storage bin
  • Tulle – I purchase 1 1/2 yards at my local fabric store but Wal-Mart sells fabric too.
  • 1 1/2 inch Ribbon
  • Basket Filler – also sold at most dollar stores
  • Scissors
  • Tissue paper or crumbled paper

Next, purchase all the other things you want to go into your basket.  For this basket, I am making a combo of spa items and snacks for a busy mom that needs a pick-me-up.

Gift Basket Contents

Assembling The Gift Basket

  •  Place the crumbled tissue paper at the bottom of the basket.  You do this so that you add height to the basket before placing the items inside and so that you do not have to use excess filler.

  • Next, add the filler and cover the paper.

  • Then add the gift basket contents starting with the larger and heavier items at the bottom.  So the smaller and lighter items should be placed towards the top.

  • Once you have the basket assembled and arranged how you like, it is time to wrap it with the tulle.
  • Open the tulle and place the basket in the center of the tulle, then gather the tulle and secure with the ribbon.

  • Once you tie the ribbon, there will be an excess of tulle on the top.
  • Gather and cut off evenly with the scissors and it will fluff like a ball.

Now it is ready for the gift recipient!
