- Large Cooking Pot
Directions For Bacon Buttery Cabbage
- Fry a package (1 lb) of bacon and drain on paper towels. Once the bacon is cool, crumble or chop into smaller pieces.
- Rinse off a head of cabbage. I usually chop in large sections and then rinse off.
- With a large knife coarse chop up the cabbage.
- Cut up a stick of butter and place in a large cooking pot.
- Then add in the chopped cabbage.
- Next add in the frozen peas and the chopped onions.
- Last, add in the seasonings and stir. Do not add water. Cabbage is consisted of mostly water so it will make its own juices. The butter is enough base at the bottom of the pot.
- Cook on medium to medium low heat for 12-20 minutes until cabbage is tender. So if you like cabbage with a little crunch, taste at 12 minutes for doneness. The longer you cook it, the softer the cabbage gets.
- Once the cabbage is done, turn off the stove. Next drain the excess liquid and then return the cabbage to the pot.
- Now add in the crumbled bacon and stir.
- The cabbage is is ready! Enjoy by itself or with you favorite main dish.
