Patriotic Door Wreath

Making a Patriotic Door Wreath is a great summer craft that sets the tone for the summer and loving your country. Â Having patriotic decorations shows pride for your country while celebrating the history of the United States of America. Â Red, White, and Blue is a great color combination, and you can decorate with nice bright colors or traditional vintage Americana. Â It is a really cool way to brighten and deter away from the daily home decor. Â I love DIY crafts and seasonal decorating. Â So I start decorating in May in preparation for Memorial Day, and have the decorations up for May through the end of July.

Also, if you are celebrating with friends and family for Memorial Day or the 4th of July, this is a great way to welcome guests. Â So you don’t need any experience with crafting to make a wreath like this. Â You just need to know how to measure, twist, and use a pair of scissors.

Directions For Patriotic Wreath
- Start by cutting your ribbons in 8-9 inch lengths and sort into piles.  Cut the ends on both ends of the cut ribbon into a dove tail designs.  It is very important to do this step before adding to the wreath base. The easiest way to quickly cut these ribbons is to measure an 8-9″ strip, then fold back and forth in the 8-9″ length without cutting 24 times. Holding the accordion folded ribbon, cut both ends of the folds to make twenty four 8-9″ pieces.  Repeat the fold for another 12-15 times for the second set. Also note that depending on the texture or type of fabric the ribbon is made of, you may have to cut the dove tails individually or 2-3 at a time.  I had to do this with the mesh glitter ribbon.

- Now, create your clusters by stacking the ribbon pieces, angled and fanned out as they overlap. Â Then, pinch the center of the ribbons tightly and secure with a chenille stem. Â So once you establish the pattern for gathering, then repeat for the remaining ribbon clusters.

- Next, do a dry fit and determine the patten around the wire form.

- Then attach the ribbon clusters to the wire form by twisting tightly on the backside. Â I like to space them about an inch apart to allow for fluffing.

Note: If you want a smaller wreath form, you will need to cut your ribbon lengths shorter than 8″, for example 14″ wreath 6″ lengths. Test a piece to see how much length you need for size of your wreath form. There is no knot in the center of the ribbon clusters.
- Now, once all the ribbon clusters are secured, fluff out the ribbon around the wreath.

- Next, secure the decorative accents on the wreath with more chenille stems, ribbon, twine or clear fishing line. Â So, I do not recommend hot gluing on accents as the glue will ruin the ribbons.

- It is done! Â Hang on the door under a covered surface or indoors.
