Vintage Faux Fireworks

This is a great craft to make your own Vintage Faux Fireworks for 4th of July, Memorial Day, or any other Americana patriotic occasion.  These faux fireworks are very easy to make with empty toilet paper rolls.  So you can make as many as you want.  Just start saving the empty rolls and then make the fireworks.  I started gathering these about a month before the 4th of July.  I also decided to print my own patriotic paper from images I found on-line on white card stock because I was looking for more vintage style images.  But you could also buy scrapbook paper packs that are very easy to use.

I like to make many of my own party decorations to provide uniqueness and originality to my party themes.  I will use these faux fireworks on tables to enhance the Americana vintage look.  So these will work well with the farmhouse Americana theme.  You can also use these decorations in arrangements, centerpieces, and tiered decorations.

Supplies

• Heavy Duty Sharp Scissors
• Glue Sticks
• Mini Glue Gun with Glue Sticks
• Chip Board – I used on sheet of 12 x 12 inch – 1.5mm
• Wire Jute Cord or Foiled Star Decorations
• Empty Toilet Paper Rolls – I recommend 6-12

• Paper Cutting Scoring Board or ruler
• Craft Mat
• Scrap Paper
• 65lb Regular Card Stock to print Vintage Patriotic Paper or Scrapbook Paper
• Color Printer
• Pen or Pencil
• Single hole punch (optional)
• Twine/Jute (optional but used for grouping)

 

Directions For Vintage Faux Fireworks

• Start by finding vintage patriotic backgrounds and save them down to your computer.
• Next, print the backgrounds on 65 lb regular white cardstock and trim off the edges with scissors.  You can also use pre-printed Americans scrapbook paper if you can locate it.

• Then, take a toilet paper roll and do a dry fit and trace the length of the toilet paper roll.  So, you can use a ruler to make sure the line is straight or a paper scoring cutting board to trace.

• Cut the cardstock, do a dry fit and make sure it covers completely.  Then, use a glue stick or Modge Podge, rub glue on the outside edges of the underside of the cardstock and then affix to the toilet paper roll.

• Next, trace the toilet paper roll top on the chipboard and then cut out.  Also, a gatorade bottle cap is the same size of most toilet paper rolls, just trace the top side and not the bottom of the cap.

• Now, hot glue the chipboard to the toilet paper roll.

• Trace the cardstock with the top of the toilet paper roll, cut it out, and glue stick the paper image on top of the chipboard.

• Then, cut the wired jute and then hot glue on top of the toilet paper roll.

• It is done!  You can also chipboard and paper the bottom of the firecracker, or leave it open.  This will depend on how you plan to use the decorations you are creating.  Use the vintage fireworks as table decor accents or in Americana centerpieces.
