Custom Decorative Magnets
A great party favor is decorative custom magnets. My guests love every time I make these decorative magnets because I use a stronger magnet than most magnets come with, so whether you are hanging on the refrigerator or other magnetic surface, these hold pictures, cards or letters great.
Custom magnets can be made in large or small quantities. So they are perfect for wedding favors, any holiday favors, graduation parties and perfect for the house or office. They are also a great craft to do with older kids. Make sure if you do this with kids, that they are older and kept out of the way of younger kids. Be fully aware that magnets are a major choking hazard for small kids. Add these magnets to custom party favor bags that I will share how I made.

Supplies Required for Decorative Magnets
• Flat-back Clear Glass Beads – you will need 50-100 beads depending on the size of your event. So estimate 4-6 magnets per favor bag and allow for damaged or odd size beads that you will need to throw out. In addition, make sure the glass beads are clear. Some bags have glass beads with an opaque sheen on them that will not work for this project. Look for bags with beads with no or minimal cracks in the beads. You can purchase at a craft store, some dollar stores or on-line.
- 1-2 packs of Ceramic Round Magnets – 0.75 inches (1.9 cm) 50 pk – Magnet Strength 6 or 7, diameter ¾ and thickness 3/16 – purchase at local craft store or on-line
- Mod Podge Gloss or Matte Water Base Sealer Glue and Finish – purchase at a local craft store, dollar store or on-line
- Regular White Card Stock to print outs of images you want to use – purchase at office supply store or on-line.
- Color Printer
- Multi-temp Hot Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
- Scissors
- Paint Brush and Paint Tray
- 3 inch x 4 inch (7.6 cm x 10.2 cm) clear small bags – use jewelry or candy bags – I use jewelry bags and cut off the self-sealing part because you get more bags for the same price.
- Decorative small ribbon to match your theme
- Craft mat or other protection for surface

Instructions for Custom Decorative Magnets
1. Print out your magnet images on regular card stock about the size of the glass beads. So I usually print 16 images to one sheet of card stock. I found the images by doing an internet search to match the theme for my party. Then I saved the images to a file and then when I was ready to print, picked the images from my file and print.
2. Trace the glass bead over the image and then cut out with scissors.
3. With the paint brush, brush on the Mod Podge and affix to the glass bead. Then allow to dry for at least 1 hour.
4. Turn on your glue gun to low heat (if you have a multi-temp gun). Once heated, place a dab of glue on the back and affix the magnet holding for 5-10 seconds. Then allow to finish drying for at least 10 minutes and you are done!
NOTE: If you have never worked with hot glue before, even low temperature setting produces very hot glue. Make sure you are careful and do not allow it to come in contact to your skin. So do not let small children close to a glue gun and turn off the glue gun when you leave the room and move it out of reach.
Use As Favors
Place 4-6 decorative magnets in a jewelry bag or candy bag and tie with a decorative ribbon. So if you are distributing to families with small children, place a note that these should not be around small children as they may be a choking hazard. This is very important when handing out magnets at a party.
I attach decorative magnet warning labels to my bags that I print on my computer on card stock and punch out with a 1.5 inch circle craft punch. Then I punch a hole at the top with a single-hole punch and tie a ribbon around bag to attach.
Warning Label: Keep away from small children and pets, magnets are a choking hazard and are harmful if swallowed.
