Custom Water Bottles

One of the best ways to add impact to a party or event is to make these easy decorative custom water bottles.  Custom water bottles add a layer of detail that is unexpected for your guests.  So, I customize my parties according to the theme and find easy to print images on-line.  Then I attach to the custom water bottles with strips of card stock or ribbon, and then attach the label.

You can also get creative with using various types of paper like, regular copy, card stock, textured card stock, construction paper, and glitter card stock.  Also, to add dimension, you can use craft punches to create circles and scallops with the theme of the party.

Custom Water Bottle Label Supplies

  • Small or large water bottles
  • Mini Hot Glue Gun
  • Mini Hot Glue Sticks
  • Regular Glue sticks
  • 65-67 lb Regular White Card Stock
  • Card Stock or Scrapbook paper in preferred color and/or glitter Card Stock
  • Ribbon (optional) – I used for baby feet water bottle
  • Scissors
  • 1 ¾ inch and 2 inch Scallop Craft Punch
  • 1.5 inch Circle Craft Punch
  • Single Hole Punch
  • Pen or silver gel pen for darker color Card Stock
  • Craft or Utility Cutting Mat (or surface that can be messed up)

Instructions For Custom Water Bottles

  1. Create template from existing label on the bottle. This ensures the correct width and length to use.
  2. Cut off the existing label and place over card stock and trace. Then use a ruler to make the template straight or to make it thicker or thinner.
  3. Once you have the right size template, cut it out and write template on it.

Custom Water Bottle Template

  1. Using the desired card stock, trace your template long wise.

Note:  So if you are using black card stock or dark card stock, trace with a silver or light color fine tip gel pen, so you can see the trace lines to cut.

  1. Then cut your strips with sharp scissors and discard the excess. The left over amount is easy to confuse with your intended strip size so make sure you throw out the excess.

Note:  For the custom baby feet water bottles I used ribbon instead of paper.  So you follow the same instructions:  remove the existing water bottle label and line up on your ribbon to determine your length, mark with a pen and cut.  Then I labeled the first one as “template”, then cut the rest of my ribbon.  Therefore, I usually use at least 2 ribbon spools per party, unless I get lucky and find a 10 yard spool of ribbon.

Custom Water Bottles

  1. Turn on your glue gun to low heat. I use a mini dual temperature glue gun and if you are new to crafting, I recommend buying a mini dual temperature gun so you can use it on any project.
  2. Glue a line of glue on the end of the strip and affix to bottle. Then wrap the strip around the bottle and glue on the other end.

Tip:  Try to start your glue on where you want your label to affix to (avoid the bottle line).  Your label will go over the seams to present a clean finish.

  1. Glue your label to cover the seams of the strip and hold for a few seconds.  Your have now created a decorative custom water bottle label your guests will not forget.

To Make the Decorative Water Bottle Labels

This is a 3D label with a sticker gem embellishment

  • 1.5 inch Circle Craft Punch
  • 1 ¾ inch Scallop Craft Punch
  • 2 inch Scallop Craft Punch
  • 65-67 lb white regular Card Stock
  • Card Stock or Scrapbook paper in your preferred choice
  • Glitter Card Stock or Scrapbook paper in your preferred choice
  • Glue Stick
  • Multi-Temp mini hot glue gun with glue sticks
  • Sticker gem embellishments (optional)

Custom Water Bottle Label Instructions

  • Print out desired images on white card stock.

  • Use the circle craft punch and cut out image. So make sure you print the image small enough to fit in your craft punch clearly.

  • I used Scrapbook paper for the second layer. Punch out background by using the 1 ¾ inch Scallop Craft Punch.

  • If you want the 3D look, use 12 x 12 glitter Card Stock and the 2 inch Scallop Craft Punch, then cut out 2 inch scallops punches.

  • Using scratch piece of paper (I used messed up printer paper), flip over circle cut out and apply glue with a glue stick. Also, make sure you do this with a glue stick.  Regular glue may bleed through the image and hot glue is not forgiving if you need to re-position on the background.  With glue from a glue stick, you can make sure the image is applied in the middle of the scallop background.  Then, you have a few seconds to move it around if you mess up.  So you cannot move it if you apply with hot glue.

  • To affix your top 2 layers to glitter card stock, do a dry fit first to make sure the scallop edges line up. Remember you cannot re-position with hot glue, so do a dry fit first.  Next, apply a circle of hot glue on the back.  Then flip over and affix to glitter scallop cut out.

  • Repeat this for the number of water bottles you need and affix to front of the water bottle with a circle of hot glue over the seam for a clean and professional look.
