Harry Potter Snitch Christmas Tree Topper

If you have a Harry Potter Christmas tree, or are planning to have a Harry Potter Christmas tree, finding a tree topper can be challenging. Most people chose to make their own tree topper. For me it was between an owl and a giant snitch. I decided to make a giant Harry Potter inspired snitch as the tree topper. In total, the wingspan is about 36 inches.

If you are interested in a making a giant snitch tree topper, search for a large metal sphere that is about 9.5-10 inches. You can find large spheres at most home goods stores, craft stores or on-line. If you can’t really find a sphere in gold, then just spray paint it.

Supplies

8-10 inch wire or metal sphere (if it is the wrong color, just spray paint it). These are also sold at craft stores or home stores.
18 inch Gold Christmas leaf pick or feather – try your local home goods store or craft store
Dual temperature mini glue gun and glue sticks
Craft Mat or protective surface covering
Tissue paper or Drop Cloth(if you need to spray paint anything)
Gold Metallic Spray Paint (optional – if you need to fix the colors of the wings or sphere)
Gold Glitter (optional)
Craft Cutters
Chenille Stems – used to secure the snitch to the tree

Directions For Snitch Christmas Tree Topper

Lay down protective covering and spray paint the sphere. Then allow to dry for 1 hour.

On a clean protective surface, do a dry fit of the wings to the sphere.

Now cut off the excess stem of the Christmas feather/leaf with a craft cutter and then glue onto the sphere. So you may have to hold onto the wings a few minutes until they set.
